Mundi and Lotte took me to the yearly Jazz festival in Sofitel. We were able to experience music by Omar Sosa et al (check him out at www.omarsosa.com), which was a mixture of Malinese, African, Cuban music. It was a really overwhelming experience. It was amazing how innovative they were in making instruments - from plastic bags, water bottles, rubber tubes, etc - to how intense their energy was while performing.
Drunk from the experience, we just had to have wine. I asked my friend Kiko where to hang out in the Malate area, and he recommended Penguin Cafe/Gallery. Cecille Zamora says that this was the hip and happening place years ago, and is one of the last places in Malate that's still decent to hang out in and has surprisingly kept its character after so many years.
